The
Law Centre operates a discrimination law project
covering
- ROCHDALE
- OLDHAM
- BURY
- BOLTON
And so the service has been
called the R.O.B.B.
project.
The project is funded by the
Equality and Human Rights Commission (‘EHRC’)
to 31 September 2009 to provide advice, assistance
and representation for clients with discrimination
enquiries. It is hoped funding for the project
will be extended.
Most people know that discrimination
law applies in employment. It also covers most
areas of public life such as access to services,
housing, education and transport.
The project team consists of qualified and non
qualified lawyers. Any assistance we provide
is entirely free.
The project team is experienced
in Tribunal and County Court representation
and deals with discrimination rights enquiries
on a daily basis.
You can obtain advice on any
discrimination matter by calling the Project
on 01706 657850
from 9am to 5pm Monday
to Friday and on Mondays to 5.30pm or
calling in to our offices during these times.
We can see you at the Law Centre, or at your
home or another location convenient to you if
you have needs arising from a disability.
We also work closely with
other advice organizations and may be able to
arrange appointments in your local area.

A client with cerebral palsy was on the waiting
list for suitable housing for nearly 4 years.
Following the ROBB Project
involvement and a county court claim a suitable
property was quickly found for the client and
£3000 compensation agreed.
A registered blind client wanted to attend the
local college. The college
failed to make reasonable adjustments to enable
their attendance.
Following the ROBB Project involvement and conciliation
the problems the
student faced were rectified and the college
changed policies. The client was
awarded substantial compensation.
A client was unable to walk without pain or
a walking stick. Their employer
removed a parking pass which made accessing
work difficult. The ROBB
project prepared a grievance for this
client complaining of a failure to make
reasonable adjustments. The parking pass has
now been returned to the client.
A client with learning difficulties was attending
college but found that the
college did not make reasonable adjustments
to change the learning and
exam conditions to suit this students needs.
The ROBB Project worked
so
that the student’s needs were met by the
college.
The discrimination project
seeks to work closely with other advice organizations
in the R.O.B.B. area. We can often arrange to
see new and existing clients at CABx, Law Centres
and equality centres in your area.
