About us
Rochdale Law Centre is a registered charity that provides free, independent, specialist legal advice and representation to individuals in Greater Manchester and some surrounding areas. Rochdale Law Centre's solicitors are regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA).
Free legal advice is provided in the areas of Housing, Asylum and Immigration. We are also able to offer representation in Housing, Asylum and some immigration matters for example, those involving domestic violence.
Our sister Community Interest Company, Rochdale Legal Enterprise is able to offer representation in Immigration and Asylum Matters at an affordable price. The same solicitors and caseworkers that work for Rochdale Law Centre also carry out work for Rochdale Legal Enterprise.
Rochdale Law Centre was established over 20 years ago to promote access to justice and to serve the needs of traditionally oppressed groups and those whose access to the legal system is restricted. Our mission is to help those disadvantaged by:
* providing free, independent, high quality legal advice and representation,
* addressing inequality in access for persons and families on low incomes to high quality legal advice and representation,
* undertaking training, public education work, campaigning and by working on a strategic level with relevant partners,
* challenging discrimination of all kinds.
Reception
Our reception and general office telephone line are open from 9 am - 1 pm on Mondays and Tuesdays and 9 am to 2 pm Wednesday to Friday. An answer machine service is available at all other times, please leave your name, telephone number and a brief message and we will return your call as soon as possible. Due to funding cuts our reception is not open outside of these times and we are unfortunately unable to allow access to the Law Centre after our reception is closed unless a pre-arranged client appointment has been made in advance.
Board of Trustees
Rochdale Law Centre has a Board of Trustees which is elected by the members of the Law Centre at the Annual General Meeting. It is made up of representatives of local groups and of interested individuals. All members of the Board bring their own skills, resources and local knowledge to the running of the Law Centre. The Board of Trustees is responsible for ensuring local control and local accountability of the Law Centre. It is their role to set the Law Centre's priorities, and employ its staff. If you wish to be considered as a member of our Board of Trustees, please email your CV to admin@rochdalelawcentre.org.uk giving the reasons for your interest in the position and what you would contribute to the Law Centre.
Funding
We have legal aid contracts with the Legal Aid Agency to provide Housing, Asylum and some Immigration advice and representation to those that are eligible for legal aid.
We have funding from The Access to Justice Foundation for the general running of the Law Centre.
AB Charitable Trust, The North West Legal Trust and The British Red Cross offer funding to our charity to complete projects that support asylum seekers and some immigration clients.
